WHEN I SIGN IN TO AOL THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT SILLY LITTLE

PICTURE ADORNING THE AREA EVERY DAY.  SOMEBODY MUST WORK

AT PICKING THOSE PICTURES OUT. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A "TOUGH"  JOB LIKE THAT.

I DONATE CLOTHES, ETC. TO LUPUS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR.   TODAY IS ONE

OF THOSE DAYS.   I GOT THE STUFF READY YESTERDAY AND PUT IT OUTSIDE

EARLY THIS MORNING SO THAT THEY CAN PICK IT UP.   THEY ARE VERY

RELIABLE.

I ALWAYS ENJOY GIVING OKSANA HER ENGLISH LESSONS EACH NIGHT.   HER

VOCABULARY HAS REALLY GROWN AND SHE NO LONGER WORRIES ABOUT

HAVING CONVERSATIONS IN ENGLISH.   I FEEL GOOD ABOUT THAT!

Little Things I Like

There are many little things that I like and I thought today

I would share some of them with you. ( Maybe some of you

would like to share some of your favorites with us.)

 

     1.    I like starting off my day with a healthful

            breakfast.  

     2.   I like people!!   I see all this bad stuff going on

            when I watch TV.....but the people 

            whom I have met during

            my lifetime have all been extremely nice

            and are always there for me.

            I never cease to be amazed at how warm and

            helpful strangers are to me!

 

    3,    Some of the current products I like using:

 

                  I used a concealer under my makeup.  The one

                  I find easy to use and that does a good job is

                  Revlon Photoready.   Easy to put on and

                  really does conceal spots.

                                         ----

 

                  I like eating 1/2 an Apple Pecan Chicken salad

                  at Wendy's.   Hard to believe that you could

                  find such a delicious, healthful salad at a fast

                  food place.  It is chock full of good stuff like

                  salad greens, grilled chicken, apples, pecans,

                  dried cranberries, etc.   The dressing is a

                  pomegranate flavored one and it is so good!

                                    -------

                  The current moisturizer I am using seems to

                   be doing a good job.  I like Healthy Defense

                   made by Neutrogena.

           5.    I like teaching.   I have a young lady who comes

                  in to check on me every night before I go to bed.

                  (Something my daughters set up for me)   She is

                  from the Ukraine and is about to take her citizenship

                  exam next week.   I have been coaching her on

                  what she needs to know for the test and she is in

                  very good shape. ( I hope and pray that she passes!)

                  I also enjoy helping her with her English

                  writing letters for her, widening her world

                  about what is available here in the U.S. etc.

           6.    I like keeping busy so I don't have time to think about

                  how much I miss my wonderful husband.

          7.     Pussycats!!   My daughter has several of them and

                  they follow me around, love to sit on my lap and

                  be petted and remember me each time I come

                  back for a visit.   I also love dogs and both my

                  daughters have wonderful golden retrievers.

          8.    Keeping everything in my drawers and closets

                  organized and always in place.

          9.   I like watching Turner Classic movies and

                 seeing all the old time stars I know so well!

A 'PIZZA' POETRY

Many years ago we were on a guided tour through parts of Italy.  While we were on the bus one day they asked us to write a little poem about something in Italy and they said that the person who wrote the best one would get a prize of a very nice book about famous Italians.

Yesterday I happened to see that book (yeah...I did win) and it reminded me of this very intellectual poem I wrote then:

 

               Your Coliseum -  it's supree-um

               Your forums - we adore-em

 

               Love your pasta and your vino

               And we dig your cappuccino

 

                         But what I'd like to know

                         Is, why if this is so..

 

                We'd trade the Bridge of Sighs

                 For a Big Mac and some fries !

Getting Back to Where I Left Off Yesterday

I do these exercises for the upper part of my body.  I do these sitting on the side of my bed.

Arms:  1. I put my arms out in front of me--palms facing up and hand closed.  I tighten the muscles in my arms, bend my elbows and force my palms to my shoulders.  2.  I put my arms out to the side--palms up and hand closed.  I tighten the muscles in my arms, bend my elbow and force my palms to my shoulders.  3.  I put my arms straight up, palms facing up and hands closed.  I tighten the muscles, bend my elbows and force my palms down to my shoulders to that my arms bend backwards with elbows forward and hands going down toward my back.  4.  I pull my shoulder and arms back and straighten up my body at the same time.

Hands:  1. I put my hands together and force them open and closed keeping only my fingertips together. 2. I pretend to grasp something in front of me and pull it back to my chest.  3. I pretend to play the piano fast.  4. With hands together and only fingertips touching, I twiddle my thumbs both ways and then move my thumbs up and down.  

Neck:  1.  I move my head from left to right.  2. I move my head forward and backward.

Face:  1. I raise my eyebrows up and down.  2.  With my mouth slightly open, I rest my chin on my hand, then force my chin down while resisting the movement with the hand under my chin.  3.  With my mouth slightly open, I rest my chin on my hand, then force my chin up with my hand while resisting the movement with my chin muscles.  

Finally, I keep my knees together and run my hands down the outside of my legs until they touch my ankles.  

If you are allowed to exercise, you might want to try some of these.  I repeat them about 8 times each or more or less depending on how I feel.  Hope this gives you some ideas for creating your own workout. 

Something I Dreamed Up to Do Before Breakfast

Some time ago, I got to thinking that if I don't exercise all my muscles every day they will just atrophy and, like some of you I'm sure, I don't do any aerobic exercise.  So I made up this little routine which I do each morning while lying in bed and then while sitting on the side of the bed.  The whole thing only takes a few minutes.  I go from head to toe and try to use all my muscles.

So today, let's start with what I do for the lower part of my body. 

I do each of these exercises several times.

Toes:   1. I curl my toes inward.  2. I spread my toes as far apart as possible

Ankles:  1.  I flex my ankles up and down 2. I flex my ankles in circles to the right and then to the left.

Leg Stretches:  1. Starting with my knees bent, I lift my right knee to my chest and then my left knee to my chest.   2. Starting with my knees bent, I raise my right leg straight up and then my left leg straight up.

Knees:   1. With both legs bent and knees together, I move my knees to right side of the bed and then to the left side of the bed.  2.  Starting with knees bent and legs together, I open and close my legs.

Tummy Routine:  1. Starting with knees bent and legs together, I tighten my stomach muscles and push my stomach down into the bed.  2. Starting from the same position, I tighten my stomach muscles and raise my stomach off the bed.  3. I squeeze the muscles in my tush together.  4.  And last but not least, lying down with knees bent and legs together, I try to sit up and run my hands down the sides of my legs as far and I can go.  

Enough of that stuff for today.  I'll give you the upper half tomorrow.  

Again, remember these are just my ideas.  I'm not an expert.

There is a good TV show about non aerobic exercises called "Sit and Be Fit".  More tomorrow if you can stand it!!
